Letter to LACDP Chair Mark Gonzales

Dear Mr. Gonzales:

Given the recent publication of racist and bigoted statements by Los Angeles City Councilmembers Nury Martinez, Kevin de Leon, and Gil Cedillo, the undersigned hereby request that the Los Angeles County Democratic Party deny the aforementioned individuals membership to the Party, including as proxies (alternates) for LACDP members in any Democratic Party body over which we have jurisdiction, and from participating in any LACDP function, including for themselves or other candidates.

The relevant statements and conduct are blatant violations of our Party Code of Conduct and anti-harassment policies. We have not included the underlying evidence at this time but are prepared to do so if required.

Neither Martinez, de Leon, or Cedillo should be allowed to retain membership in the Party or benefit now or in the future from any resources or support for any future political campaigns they may initiate.

The Democratic Party at every level should not be in the business of protecting or supporting known racists and bigots in political office or those who would abuse the power of their office for political gain.
